Two people died in a one-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday evening in Salem.

A third victim was taken by Silver Lake Rescue Squad to Aurora Medical Center for treatment of what was believed to be minor injuries.

The three, all females believed to be in their late teens, were not identified pending notification of next of kin.

The crash occurred about 7:12 p.m. on Highway K, or 60th Street, about three-quarters of a mile west of Highway B, or 288th Avenue.

The cause of the crash had not been determined as of 9 p.m., according to Darin Noyes, Salem Fire and Rescue Department battalion chief. He said Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department officials at the scene indicated the vehicle’s speed and the victims’ apparent lack of seat belt use contributed to the crash and deaths.

Noyes said a witness saw the victims’ vehicle veer to one side of 60th Street, swerve to the other and then saw a cloud of dust. The vehicle apparently went off the road and flipped over at least once.

One of the victims who died was ejected from the vehicle, while the other was inside when rescuers arrived. The Kenosha County medical examiner declared both of them dead at the scene. Noyes said the injured victim was outside the vehicle and talking when they arrived.

The Wisconsin State Patrol also reported to the scene.
