Important differences in tragic deaths

Reading Michael Bell’s letter, “Two cases reveal contrast in system,” provides a classic example of opportunism at its worst. Mr. Bell not only uses the tragic deaths of Colin Byars and Nino Sustache to promote his own agenda (getting “justice” for the death of his son who was shot and killed in a traffic stop by Kenosha Police), he attempts to justify it with unsupportable claims of racism.

The differences in the outcomes of the court cases in the Byars and Sustache deaths were based on the facts and circumstances of each case; just as the decision not to prosecute the KPD officer involved in his son’s death was based on the facts and circumstances of that incident. The deaths of Colin Byars and Nino Sustache and Michael Bell’s son are all tragedies; the deaths of Colin Byars and Nino Sustache were at the hands of other individuals with varying degrees of culpability, thus the difference in sentences; the death of Michael Bell’s son was the result of the actions of Michael Bell’s son.

Mr. Bell, it is time to let all the dead rest in peace.
