It’s July 4 in Kenosha, and there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate the nation’s independence.

The Main Event is tonight, when the city’s fireworks show kicks off at 9:30 p.m. on the lakefront.

Preceding the show is the annual Star Spangled Spectacular, which will include an evening of activities, starting with family activities from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Kenosha Public Museum, 5500 First Ave., and Civil War Museum, 5400 First Ave.

The Terry Sims Band will play R&B and hip-hop music from 6 to 9 p.m. at HarborPark, 56th Street and First Avenue. The Kenosha Pops Concert Band will give its annual July 4 concert from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wolfenbuttel, 5901 Third Ave.

Kenosha’s Fourth celebration continues Sunday, with the annual Civic Veterans Parade. The parade steps off at 2 p.m. at 22nd Avenue and 60th Street, continuing east on 60th and around Library Park, to a review stand at Wolfenbuttel Park.

Earlier Sunday, an annual outdoor mass — sponsored by the Kenosha Serra Club, the Catholic Youth Organization Band and the Catholic parishes of Kenosha — will be held at 10 a.m. at the Sesquicentennial Band Shell in Pennoyer Park, Seventh Avenue and Kennedy Drive. A CYO Band performance will begin at 9:30.

Mass attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at St. Elizabeth Church, 48th Street and Eighth Avenue.

Other activities outside the city include:

n The Somers Independence Day Parade at 2 p.m. today, running down Highway E from Shoreland Lutheran High School, 9026 12th St., to Somers Elementary School, 1245 72nd Ave. Following the parade is an ice-cream social at the Somers Town Hall, 7511 12th St.

n Silver Lake’s Fire Department Days runs noon to midnight today in Schmalfeldt Park. Includes water fights, brats, drinks, kids games and music, highlighted by a 7 p.m. performance by the rock band Chasing Amy.

n Paddock Lake’s fireworks show was Friday night, but a bike parade starts at 10 a.m. today at McAlonan Park.

n The Racine Independence Day Parade begins at 9 a.m. today at the intersection of Goold and Main streets, proceeding south on Main to 14th Street. The Racine Concert Band will perform patriotic music at 8 p.m. tonight in the North Beach gazebo and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Racine Zoo. Racine’s fireworks show begins at dusk tonight over the lakefront.

n Union Grove’s Fourth of July Parade steps off at 9:15 a.m. today at the Racine County Fairgrounds on Highway 11, traveling east on 11 and proceeding north on Highway 45.

n Antioch, Ill., July 4 activities begin with a 5K Run for Freedom at 8 a.m. starting at the corner of Cunningham and Poplar avenues. A parade begins at 10 a.m. downtown. Daylong activities continue in Williams Park, with a fireworks show at dusk.
