To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time. And then, there are those whom you can never please. I’ll give you some clues and let you figure out who they might be.
They are always eager to start a new war but won’t raise taxes to pay for it.
They will preemptively invade and occupy Muslim countries but are upset when Islamic insurgents and terrorists retaliate.
They are opposed to big government running our lives, but they support government control of whom we can marry and whether we can terminate an unwanted pregnancy.
They do not want government involved in managing health care but become very upset at the thought of losing their Medicare.
They are opposed to all forms of welfare, but don’t you dare touch their Social Security.
They are eager to cut taxes, but they are alarmed by the ballooning national deficit which results.
In running for office, they promise to serve the people who elect them, but they refuse to do anything but obstruct Congress from passing legislation that might benefit the nation.
They are opposed to earmarks and other forms of pork spending, except for that which they push through Congress for their constituents.
They complain about partisanship in Washington, while behaving in the most blatantly partisan manner imaginable.
Who could these malcontents be?
Marvin Martin
Kenosha
