Smolinski wins our ‘U Pick ’ Em’ bowl-picking contest
Mike Smolinski was the grand prize winner in the Kenosha News’ on-line “U Pick ‘Em Final Exam” college football bowl prediction contest.
By correctly predicting the outcome of 23 of 28 bowl games, the Kenoshan wins $50 in area restaurant gift certificates and a Kenosha News hooded sweatshirt.
Smolinski had the contest wrapped up early.
He clinched the championship following Iowa’s 24-14 win over Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl Jan. 6.
Central Michigan’s win over Troy in the GMAC Bowl and Alabama’s victory over Texas in the BCS National Championship game determined the second- through fifth-place winners.
David Kurklis, Scott Kessler and Mike Herrick all had 21 correct.
Kurklis was awarded the second-place prize of $25 in area restaurant gift certificates and a Kenosha News hooded sweatshirt on the tiebreaker, which was the Champs Sports Bowl featuring Wisconsin and Miami.
Kessler and Herrick received Kenosha News hooded sweatshirts for third place while Alan Esser of Chicago finished fifth.
Keep an eye out for our next contest, which will involve the Super Bowl.
