The Carthage men’s basketball team’s winning streak came to an end on Saturday night, but Steve Djurickovic’s CCIW Player of the Week streak continued on Monday.
For the third week in a row and the fourth time this season, the Carthage junior was given the league’s weekly award after averaging 32.5 points in two games.
In his career, Djurickovic has been named the CCIW Player of the Week nine times.

Djurickovic scored a career-high 44 points on 15-of-25 shooting, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range and a 10-of-10 effort from the free-throw line, in a 68-63 victory at Wheaton. He also had three rebounds, three assists and two steals. He then finished with 21 points and nine assists in a 70-59 loss to Augustana on Saturday.
In CCIW play, Djurickovic leads the league in scoring (25.0 ppg), assists (8.2) and 3-point percentage (.514).
It was also recently announced that Djurickovic was named to the 2010 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine District 5 first-team all-academic squad. As a first-team member, the Bradford graduate advances to the national ballot for consideration as a CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American. An exercise and sports science major with a 3.49 cumulative grade-point average through the fall 2009 semester, Djurickovic was named second-team academic all-district in 2009.
Duo cited for academics
Carthage athletes Jeff Koeneman and Hollis McPeek have been named to the CCIW/Jack Swartz All-Academic squad for the fall season.
Koeneman, a senior wide receiver on the football team, was named first-team All-CCIW for the second year in a row.
The Barrington, Ill., native finished with 94 receptions for 1,031 yards and 11 touchdowns. He capped his career as the school’s career leader in receptions (258) and receiving yards (3,008). The business administration major has a cumulative GPA of 3.55.
McPeek, a sophomore tennis player, was named first-team All-CCIW and MVP of the CCIW Championship. The Lake Bluff, Ill., native won the league’s No. 3 singles title and also teamed with Gina Klein to win the No. 2 doubles title. A double major in business administration and marketing, she has a GPA of 3.7.
Reds eye payback
The 14th-ranked Carthage women’s basketball team will try to avenge one of its three losses this season when it plays Elmhurst in a CCIW matchup 7:30 tonight at R.A. Faganel Hall.
The second-place Reds (18-3, 8-2 CCIW) lost to the third-place Bluejays (14-7, 7-3), 73-65, on Jan. 12 at Tarble Arena. It was only the 14th victory in 55 meetings against Carthage.
Senior forward Lyndsie Long leads the CCIW in scoring at 23.6 points per game. The two-time, first-team All-CCIW performer scored 25 points along with teammate Meghan Merklein in the first meeting against the Reds.
Katie Klemke led four Carthage players in double figures with a season-high 19 points thanks to a 5-of-8 performance from 3-point range.
The Reds will clinch a spot in the four-team CCIW Tournament with a victory or a Wheaton loss. The Thunder play at last-place Augustana.
